Terms of Use

Version 1.1 · 23 September 2026 · Replaces version 1.0 of the same date · These Terms govern your use of the website and installed app published as “Rovora TCD map” (the “Service”)

1. Who we are, and your acceptance of these Terms

The Service is published under the name Rovora and operated by Ruocent, established in Hong Kong. In these Terms “we”, “us” and “our” mean that operator. Our contact address is contact@ruocent.com.

By using the Service — loading the map, searching the data, saving favourites, starting the in-app walking directions, or following a link from the Service to another site — you confirm that you have read and accept these Terms of Use (the “Terms”) and the way information is handled as described in the Privacy Policy.

If you do not accept these Terms, do not use the Service. If you use it for an organisation, you confirm that you are entitled to accept these Terms on that organisation’s behalf.

These Terms are written in English. Where the interface appears in another language, the English text of these Terms and of the Privacy Policy prevails if anything is inconsistent.

2. No affiliation with Trinity College Dublin

The Service is an independent, unofficial project. It is not affiliated with, associated with, authorised by, endorsed by, sponsored by, approved by, or otherwise connected with:

• Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin, or any of its faculties, schools, departments, research institutes or campus companies;
• the Library of Trinity College Dublin, or its estate, facilities, security, accessibility or student services functions;
• any student union, society or commercial operator on or near the campus.

Names of buildings, rooms, abbreviations and facilities are used to identify locations. Their use implies no endorsement, partnership, sponsorship or approval, and transfers no rights.

The Service is not the University’s official map and must not be presented as one. For authoritative information — access arrangements, accessibility provision, opening hours, room allocations, examination venues, parking rules or campus security — contact the University or the department concerned.

3. What the Service is, and what it is not

The Service is a free, browser-based campus reference and wayfinding aid. It combines publicly available information about the University’s city-centre campus into a single searchable map. It provides:

• a searchable index of buildings, lecture theatres, libraries, computer rooms, accessible toilets, study and social spaces, offices, gates and car parks;
• locations on a map, with outlines for many buildings and marker points for those that have coordinates only;
• supporting information where public material exists: aliases and nicknames, room codes and capacities, hearing-loop availability, descriptions, opening hours, accessibility notes, photographs and floor plans;
• outward links for turn-by-turn directions (Google Maps and Apple Maps), and an in-app walking indication showing distance, direction and a route along footpaths;
• optional conveniences: favourites, language selection, light or dark appearance, links to individual locations, and offline use after a first visit.

The Service is not:

• an official University service, publication or record;
• a survey-grade or legally authoritative source of positional data;
• an indoor navigation system: it holds no floor-by-floor indoor paths and cannot guide you to a specific desk, shelf or office;
• a transport, traffic, parking-enforcement, timetable or event information service;
• an accessibility audit, and it does not guarantee accessibility. Accessibility information is reproduced from public sources and may be incomplete, out of date, or specific to particular entrances and times.

4. Emergencies, safety and official information

Do not use the Service for emergency response, evacuation, medical, security or other safety-critical purposes, and do not present it as an official University source.

• In an emergency, contact the emergency services (in Ireland, 112 or 999) and follow the instructions of University staff and the emergency services, together with official signage and evacuation plans.
• Do not follow a route if it conflicts with official signage, barriers, closures, security instructions or your own judgement. Closures, one-way systems and access restrictions change without notice and are not reflected in real time.
• If you have accessibility requirements, do not rely on the Service alone. Confirm arrangements in advance with the University or the venue.
• Do not use the Service while driving, cycling or operating machinery, and do not let it distract you from your surroundings. Take particular care near roads, tram lines, cycle lanes and construction areas.

5. Permitted and acceptable use

You may use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes, and for internal non-commercial reference within an educational or community setting, provided you comply with these Terms and with applicable law.

You must not:

• copy, republish, redistribute, sublicense, sell, rent or otherwise commercially exploit the Service or a substantial part of it, except as permitted by the licences in section 11 or with our written permission;
• remove, obscure or alter any attribution, copyright notice, licence notice or disclaimer, including map attribution;
• use automated means — crawlers, scrapers, bots, bulk downloaders — to extract data at a rate or volume beyond what a human user could reasonably request, or in a way that could impair the Service or the third-party services it relies on;
• circumvent or interfere with security features, access controls, rate limits or consent mechanisms;
• introduce malware, attempt unauthorised access to the Service or its hosting environment, probe or scan for vulnerabilities without our written authorisation, or otherwise disrupt the Service;
• use the Service in a way that misrepresents a relationship with the University, with us, or with anyone else, or that is misleading, deceptive, defamatory or unlawful, or that infringes the rights of others;
• use the Service to harass, stalk, endanger or unlawfully monitor anyone, including by attempting to track individuals;
• use the Service in breach of applicable export control, sanctions or other law.

We may apply reasonable technical measures to protect the Service and the third-party services it relies on, including rate limiting and blocking of abusive traffic. Serious or repeated breaches may be reported to the relevant provider or authority.

6. Using the navigation features

Two positioning features are available: an in-app walking indication, and outward links to Google Maps and Apple Maps.

6.1 In-app walking indication

• It depends on your device’s location services and on network connectivity. Accuracy varies with your device, the satellites and networks it can see, and the buildings around you. Narrow streets and tall stone buildings make errors more likely.
• Routes follow footpaths derived from public crowdsourced mapping. They may not reflect temporary closures, private land, maintenance work, seasonal restrictions, one-way systems, locked gates, or your own accessibility requirements.
• Distances and walking times are estimates. Times assume an average pace on level ground and take no account of stairs, slopes, crowds, mobility needs, luggage or weather.
• If no route is available, the Service may show a straight-line indication. A straight line is not a walkable path: it can cross buildings, walls, water and roads. Do not attempt to follow it literally.
• You remain responsible for your own safety and for complying with traffic law, campus regulations and signage.

6.2 Outward links

• Tapping those buttons takes your browser to the provider’s own website or application. The destination coordinates are included in the link so the provider can select the destination.
• From that point the provider’s terms and privacy notice apply. We do not control, and are not responsible for, the content, accuracy, availability or practices of those services.
• Turn-by-turn guidance from those providers is subject to their own accuracy, coverage and licence terms.

We choose these services in good faith but do not warrant their availability, accuracy or continued operation. If a third-party service fails, changes or withdraws, the corresponding feature may be interrupted or disappear, and we are not liable for that. Outward links are provided for convenience and are not endorsements.

8. Availability, changes and discontinuation

The Service is free and provided as available. We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation, and we may modify, suspend or discontinue it, in whole or in part, at any time and without notice — for example if the underlying public data changes, if a third-party service changes its terms, or if the circumstances of the operator change.

We may also add, remove or alter features, layout, supported languages, data fields and coverage at our discretion. Features that depend on material published by someone else, such as photographs or floor plans, may disappear if that material is withdrawn.

9. Accuracy and disclaimers

The Service is compiled from public sources with a limited amount of manual curation. Data can be incomplete, out of date or wrong. In particular:

• Positions and outlines are approximate. Building outlines are indicative, not surveys. Coordinates may be accurate to a few metres at best, and less inside clusters of buildings.
• Room codes and capacities change between terms. Some rooms are listed under older naming conventions, and a number of ordinary classroom numbers are not published publicly, so they cannot appear here.
• Opening hours, facilities and services change frequently and are outside our control. Facilities may be unavailable without notice.
• Accessibility information is reproduced from public material, may relate to a particular entrance or period, and may not reflect temporary conditions such as a lift out of service or works in progress.
• Photographs and plans may show an older state of a building, or interiors where you expected exteriors, or the reverse.
• Names, aliases and nicknames are included to help you recognise a place and may include informal or historical names that are no longer in use.

To the extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties, conditions or representations of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, non-infringement, or uninterrupted availability. You use the Service at your own risk and are responsible for checking information before relying on it.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any warranty, guarantee or right that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, and nothing here affects your rights under mandatory Irish, other EU, or Hong Kong law.

10. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law:

• We are not liable for loss of profit, loss of business, loss of opportunity, loss of goodwill, or for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss or damage arising out of or in connection with the Service, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty or otherwise, and whether or not we were told such loss was possible.
• We are not liable for loss, damage, delay, inconvenience, missed appointments, missed examinations or assessments, missed classes, missed transport or expense caused by errors, omissions, inaccuracies or unavailability of the Service, its data, its routes or its third-party dependencies, nor for the consequences of relying on the Service instead of official information.
• We are not liable for the acts, omissions, content, availability, security or privacy practices of any third-party service that the Service links to or depends on.
• Where liability is not excluded, our total liability to you in connection with the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you have paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, and EUR 50. The Service is free, so in practice that limit is EUR 50 where the law permits it.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for breach of any term whose exclusion is prohibited by law, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law. Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.

11. Data sources, attribution and intellectual property

11.1 Sources of the material presented

The Service is assembled from public material, and we claim no ownership of it. The principal sources are:

11.2 Our own material

The Service’s own interface, design, code and compiled data set, excluding third-party material and OpenStreetMap-derived data, are protected by copyright and made available for personal and non-commercial use as described in section 5. No other licence is granted by implication.

11.3 Attribution you must keep

If you reuse or quote from the Service, or reproduce a screenshot of the map, keep the attribution visible: “© OpenStreetMap contributors” together with any other credit shown. Removing or obscuring attribution breaches OpenStreetMap’s licence conditions and these Terms.

11.4 Trade marks

“Trinity College Dublin”, “the University of Dublin” and the names, logos and marks of the University and of other organisations mentioned in the Service belong to their respective owners. They are used descriptively to identify buildings, services and locations. Their use indicates no affiliation, sponsorship or endorsement and grants you no licence to use them. “Google Maps” is a trade mark of Google LLC; “Apple Maps” is a trade mark of Apple Inc.; “OpenStreetMap” and the OpenStreetMap logo are trade marks of the OpenStreetMap Foundation.

12. Copyright, trade marks and takedown requests

We respect the rights of others. We do not knowingly reproduce material for which no public licence or reasonable informational basis exists, and we do not circumvent technical restrictions.

If you hold rights in material used here and believe its use infringes them, write to contact@ruocent.com with:

• identification of the material, with enough detail for us to find it (a URL, or the building and image concerned);
• confirmation of the right you hold and, where relevant, the basis of your claim;
• your contact details;
• a statement that the information you provide is accurate and that you are the rights holder or authorised to act for them.

We will review requests promptly and, where a request is well founded, remove or replace the material as quickly as reasonably practicable, without waiting for a court order. We may also remove material proactively once a source withdraws it. Requests about OpenStreetMap data should go to the OpenStreetMap Foundation under its own notice procedure.

13. Privacy and cookies

Using the Service involves limited processing of technical information, storage on your own device, optional device location, and — only with your consent — requests to the third-party services listed in section 7. The details, including your rights under the GDPR and Hong Kong’s Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, retention periods, the legal bases relied on, and how to withdraw consent, are in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

14. Consumer rights and mandatory law

Where you deal with us as a consumer, nothing in these Terms affects any right you have under Irish consumer law (including the Consumer Rights Act 2022), under other mandatory European Union law, or under mandatory provisions of Hong Kong law. If any provision of these Terms would be unfair or unenforceable against a consumer, it does not apply to you, and the rest of the Terms continues in effect.

15. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or the Service, including non-contractual disputes, are governed by the laws of Ireland. This does not remove any protection given to you by mandatory rules of the law of the country in which you live.

The courts of Ireland have exclusive jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer resident in another European Union member state you may also bring proceedings in the courts of your own place of residence, and nothing in these Terms prevents you from using any available alternative or online dispute resolution mechanism.

Before starting formal proceedings, please write to contact@ruocent.com so we can try to resolve the matter informally. We aim to reply within 30 days.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may revise these Terms to reflect changes in the Service, in the law, or in the third-party services we rely on. The version number and date at the top of this page identify the current version. We will flag material changes in the Service where that is reasonably practicable. Continuing to use the Service after an update means you accept the revised Terms; if you do not accept them, stop using the Service. Changes do not alter the terms applicable to a dispute that arose before the change.

17. General provisions

• Severability. If a provision of these Terms is held invalid, unlawful or unenforceable, it is treated as deleted and the remaining provisions continue in full force.
• No waiver. A failure or delay in enforcing a provision is not a waiver of that provision or of any other.
• Assignment. You may not assign your rights under these Terms. We may assign our rights and obligations to a successor operator of the Service, and will make the successor’s details available on the Service.
• Entire agreement. These Terms, the Privacy Policy and notices presented in the Service, including the consent notice, are the entire agreement between us about the Service and replace any earlier statements or understandings.
• Third-party rights. No one other than you and us may enforce these Terms, except that the University and the rights holders referred to in section 12 may rely on the disclaimers of affiliation and on the intellectual property provisions.
• Survival. Sections 2, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15 and 17 survive termination or discontinuation of the Service.
• Language. The English text of these Terms governs; localised interface text is provided for convenience.
